ABOUT
BOOM Lead singer Bobby Rock was asked back when the band was formed where he saw it going in ten years, and he responded simply, “There.” When prodded for what he meant, he responded, “Where we want to be.” It has been seven long years, and a couple of name changes since then and the band is closing in on “There” with break neck speed. The band was formed in 2000, under the name Den of Thieves.
In 2002, the band changed the band name to Morningwood, where they gained some notoriety, playing in numerous venues and festivals in Southern Ontario, Montreal and Western New York. After being gently persuaded (threatened) to abandon Morningwood by an American band of the same name, the band became Boom.
Whereas most bands have a limited shelf life, the four members of Boom have been together from the beginning and will probably still be playing together well into their nineties.
Boom’s music drips with the influence of classic metal like Iron Maiden, or Judas Priest. You won’t hear any sucky ballads from Boom. Bassist Iddy Ott explains, “We just write what comes naturally to us, which turns out to be heavy music filled with angry revenge fantasy type lyrics. It’s not that we’re mean spirited, it’s just that we keep getting fu*ked over.”
As good as Boom is musically, the real strength of the band is in its live show. Front man Bobby Rock is a throwback to the true showman, running around like a madman, and whipping even the most lethargic crowd into a frenzy.
In a world where indie bands are constantly trying to aggrandize themselves with “tours” that go nowhere and CD release parties attended by no one, Boom doesn’t make any false promises or empty boasts. But there are a few hard facts which some find impressive. For example, listening to Boom music cures cancer and AIDS. Boom’s music will raise the listener’s IQ one point for every hour they listen. Anyone who owns a Boom album automatically gets into heaven, no matter how much of an asshole they were. Hey, if you don’t believe us, listen to Pope Benedict XVI, who once said, “Boom fu*king rocks!”
BOOM also plays full night shows that cover classic rock favourites from the 60's to the 90's. Contact us direct to book the band for your bar or private functions.
