ABOUT

Hi there! It's been a while since I updated this:

I'm Brock, a 37-year-old high school teacher with a wide range of musical interests. I see music as "playing roles, filling holes," so I'll play whatever instrument to fill a need. Whether it's a walking bassline or mandolin licks. My music room reflects that, starting with my first love, bass, and expanding to guitar, mandolin, banjo—pretty much anything with strings. I also sing, with a voice I like to think of as the budget love-child of Shane McGowan from the Pogues and Johnny Cash. What I lack in range, I make up for with energy, and I'm happy to take a backseat to vocalists with real pipes.

Musically, I'm hard to pin down. I grew up on country and 50s/60s rock, had my punk rock phase (which never really left me), got into Celtic stuff, then circled back to country, rockabilly, and roots. I'd be just as happy in a rockabilly, punk, or ska band. I've played in various bands and spent my 20s singing jingles for CTV and Bell Media Radio in Ottawa. I'll play anything with heart. I'd LOVE to play:

Bass in a band in the following genres:

Punk
Ska
Americana
Celtic Punk
Bluegrass
Country
Folk
Surf

Or mandolin in a:

Country
Folk
Bluegrass
Irish or
Celtic Punk band...
