ABOUT

I fell in love with the Cajun accordion (squeeze box) while visiting New Orleans in the spring of 2014. After a few months of deciding about purchasing an accordion, I decided to take it up November 2014. It is just under one year since I started to play, however, my level of play has grown significantly due to my level of commitment. I consider myself a novice level accordion player who is now ready to start jamming with a acoustic guitar player and a fiddler on a regular basis.

Influences

Cajun music itself provides all the influence I really require. It is good toe-tapping music that provides a real "Laissez les bon temps roulez" atmosphere. Although this type of music isn't popular in the Ottawa area, I believe with the French influence and acadian roots, cajun music could find a place in the Eastern Ontario.

Cajun bands I look up to:

- Lee Benoit;
- Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys;
- Savoy family;
- Bonsoir, Catin;
- Choupique.
