ABOUT

Our band name "CSIRock" comes from the first letters of our style of music. We play "Classic Surf Instrumental Rock" and we honor the original artists for their tremendous talents. We play instrumentals by "The Ventures", "The Shadows", "The Fireballs", "Dick Dale", Local Edmonton artists "Bobby Clark", "Wes Dakus and the Rebels", just to mention a few. A lot of early guitar players learned their licks from these early pioneers of the electric guitar and it's our pleasure to continue on their tradition of great music and we thank them.

The instrumental demo was a entry for the "Hockey Night In Canada contest" for CBC. It was meant to be a background for the announcers intro and therefore lacks any lead line.

Influences

Early influences were the instrumental surf bands of the 60's. The "Surf Rock" era was an exiting time for the early music scene and we are playing these tunes as they were played then. Surf Rock Originated in California which became it's own sub-culture. The use of the whammy bar, tons of reverb and fast staccato picking generated the excitement of the music that was synonymous with the surf and sun. Surf instrumentals peaked in 1963 and gave way to the vocal orientated surf music known as "Hot Rod" surf. These were harmony - filled songs and ballads with a surf theme. Then in 1994 the popularity of the sound track from the movie "Pulp Fiction" revived the surf instrumentals and gave rise to hundreds of surf bands from around the world keeping the original sound alive and we are proud to be one of them.

Thanks for dropping in.

Members Of Band

Originators:
Larry Kopra...Lead Guitarist

Larry has played professionally
for many years and has developed a style
all his own. His early influences were the guitar
players of the surf rock era. Early local Edmonton bands include
“The Night Before”, “Kiss of Death”, “Strawberry Ridge”, “Ridge”, “Slam”,
”The Wicked Uncles”, ”Heritage”, “Nevada”, “Nevada Gold”,
“Silver Mountain Band”, "Hammer Smith" “Trade Winds”,

Gary Bernas...Bass Guitarist

Gary has been a band member
of the early Instrumental band “The Spartans”

and other various local bands. He played bass for “George Tomsco” from the “Fireballs” and
also has appeared on stage with “Nokie Edwards” from “The Ventures”,
and with the late “Bobby Clark”. He is a truly talented musician.
In 2007 Gary and Larry joined forces and realized
how well they worked together leading
them to form CSIRock.

Players:

Richard Sliwkanich...Drums

Richard and Larry have played together
in the same band called “The Night Before”, early
on in their careers and now have joined forces once again in
“CSIRock”. Rick has been playing drums since the days of the surf era
and has a feel for the instrumentals and also plays other Instruments as well.
He has played drums for the “Shumka Dancers Orchestra”,
“Bobby Curtola”, “Big Miller”, “Chantels”, “Silver Hawk”,
”Good Vibrations”, and other local groups,
and has played with some of the best
musicians around.

in the instrumental band “The Spartans”.
They are now together again in CSIRock. He plays
rhythm for “The Fireballs Tribute Band" with George Tomsco
(the original founder of "The Fireballs") when they make their appearances
here in Canada. He played with the “CJCA Fairmonts” in the early
60’s. Ray has filled in as rhythm guitar for “Wes Dakus
& The Rebels” when Barry Allen was not available
and played on CJCA every Saturday on
“Teen Bandstand” at CFRN TV

We are pleased to announce that our debut at Festival Place in Sherwood Park on Wednesday August 5th was a smashing success with two encores. The tremendous reaction to our music was the highlight for all of us. The history of the surf rock instrumental story took back the audience to a time of drive in movies and high school sock hops and memories were overflowing. People were dancing in the isles.

"Our thanks" go out to Gavin Farmer (General Manager)for giving us a chance to perform, and the Festival Place staff for their kindness and willingness that makes events like this possible. Great food and a relaxed atmosphere made for a great experience.

Thanks to all who made it to the show, and we thank the "Sherwood Park News" for the article they did on CSIRock.

We are all looking forward to seeing you all again and a special thanks to the
