Dereyk Goodwin is a drummer of true versatility. Whether playing Reggae, Ska, Rock, Punk, Swing or Jazz, Dereyk is able to provide a solid, fluent and polished percussive style. Dereyk first picked up the sticks at the tender age of 3 and has been playing both solo as well as with bands and various acts ever since. Such acts include; Method, Delirium, The Black Holes, Vintage, Staylefish, Ruth’s Hat, Natalie Tobin, Brian Dale, Lance Bedard, Parallax, and most notably touring the globe with Canada’s Rock and Roll Legend Bobby Curtola. Dereyk has also been busy teaching drum lessons, continually adding to his repertoire of students. Dereyk offers professional instruction on everything from basic rudiments, stick control, various technical styles to tuning and maintenance of drums and drum hardware.
Dereyk has also been working in close partnership with many local studios as a session drummer. Having been trained in drum theory and reading from the London Academy of Music, Dereyk is readily available to sit in and provide the artist with a powerful performance in any musical styling. Dereyk also performs regularly with many professional theatre shows across Ontario as a pit musician.
Although Dereyk is currently very busy recording, touring and playing in a variety of outfits, he recently graduated from the University of Western Ontario where he majored in Media Information Technoculture. This course offers an in depth look at the music industry both from the musicians perspective and from the business end of the industry. Although music is much of Dereyk’s life, he understands that it is important to have an education as well.
