Enoc Velazquez – He was born in Mexico, raised in Canada and has lived in Argentina, Kenya, Panama and the US. He started taking drum lessons privately in Calgary and as a teenager, developed his ear and technical training playing in his school’s Jazz combos and concert bands. His father’s job took the family to Argentina in the 80’s, where through his school's music program, he was exposed to Latin, Jazz, Mambo, Salsa and Bossa Nova rhythms. In Toronto, he studied with Memo Acevedo, Colombian born drummer/percussionist/Educator and leader of the then Latin Jazz unit, Banda Brava.
After returning to Canada, he received notable recognition at the Kiwanis Music Festival by the adjudicators, including Tommy Banks, Canadian Pianist/Conductor. He received the All-Star drummer Award for the Kiwanis Music Festival, playing with fellow musicians Greg Fairweather (bass) and Lisa Miller (Piano).
He has played with many professional musicians including: George Dyer, world renowned Tenor; Guido Basso, Canadian trumpeter/composer, as drummer for the Brampton Jazz Band; Roberto Delgado (Panamanian Bass player/orchestra leader), Dino Nugent (Panamanian pianist/composer), both part of Ruben Blades’ Grammy Award production and also Barbara Wilson (Jazz Singer/Panama’s Billie Holiday) at Las Bovedas Jazz Club. He has also participated in the Panama International Jazz Festival, playing with clinicians and local musicians and in 1999, while living in Kenya, he played with the tribal drummers in Kibwezi and Soukous/Lingala bands in Nairobi.
Moving back to Calgary in 2011, he played and recorded with the Latin/Funk band Shadoplay, performing at several venues including: Calgary Jazz Festival, Lolita’s Lounge, Cliff Bungalow-Mission Latin Jazz Funk Dance Party, All Charity Festival at Market Place/Eau Claire, Party for the Parks Fundraiser, On the Wings of Hope Fundraiser, The Creekside Bar and Grill, The Red Lounge/MELROSE Café and The Hub Lounge/ Mount Royal University.
He now plays with Shadoplay Band (led by Alex Hutichinson) and Fuze Fusion (led by Patrice Bance, Jazz-Fusion guitarist and composer).
