BAND SEEKS SINGER - SINGER WANTED!

Groove Hammer, a 9 piece band with horns, seeks a new lead singer/front man for shows beginning in January of 2016.

Groove Hammer is based in Oakville and typically plays in the northern and western GTA and Golden Horseshoe. We have regular monthly gigs in Oakville and rehearse in southwestern Mississauga. We'll all musical weekend warriors with day jobs. We're a laid back, fun group that have countless years of experience playing and performing. We rehearse regularly on Monday nights, take our commitment to the band seriously, have a whole lot of fun, and make a bit of money for our efforts. What other hobbies pay for themselves?

Typically we make $50 to $60 each per bar gig, and up to $150 for corporate shows. It's our hobby but we approach it as professionals. We typically gig on Friday and Saturday nights but other days do spring up occasionally. You'll be responsible for about 1/2 to 2/3 of the songs. We have other singers in the band, which takes some of the pressure off you. :-)

Groove Hammer isn't your typical garage band or jam band. We often use written arrangements, have strong solos, and tight vocal harmonies. We've been together over 8 years, have done hundreds of shows, have a repertoire of close to 100 songs - and regularly growing - that is geared to get the audience on the dance floor, or at least recognize and enjoy the song. We have built a strong reputation in the local music community. We expect the same professional yet laid back approach, and commitment to the band from you. :-)

You are an experienced singer with a very good range. You are male or female, but be warned, ladies - we've almost always had male singers, so the songs are typically by male artists. This means that almost all charts are written in their original keys and consequently are geared more readily for a male voice that is naturally close to a tenor or alto. If you can sing these songs verbatim, fantastic! However, the idea of rewriting close to 100 charts for the entire band just won't work for us.

Also, you can confidently sing falsetto when needed. You have a strong knowledge of Soul, 60's R&B, Classic, Rock, Funk, and other popular music forms of the 1960s, 70s, and beyond. The ability to read music is a great asset. Having a strong ear is important. The phrasing in many of these songs is iconic, and we respect the original versions, so you'll have to nail them because audience expect it to sound right. This isn't jazz. :-)

Those are some of the many songs you'll be singing, as well as songs like Al Greene's LET'S STAY TOGETHER, U2's ANGEL OF HARLEM, Marvin Gaye's LET'S GET IT ON. If you can't ABSOLUTELY, 100% NAIL them, we're not the band for you.
