ABOUT

Hello, fellow local Niagara Region musos. :)

I have perused many pages of local talent profiles and found that there is an abundance of Progressive Rock and Funk and Jazz and Soul musicians in our vicinity, which pleasantly surprised me. I have a few ideas for those of us with time available and a yearning to play out again regularly or semi-regularly. One, that easily springs to mind is a heavier, Progressive Rock interpreted Level 42 tribute. Think 'At This Great Distance' and updated, heavier 'Early Tapes' to 'True Colours' era especially. There are some terrific Progressive Rock, JazzFunk, JazzRock arrangements on 'Guaranteed' and each of Mark King's solo albums as well.

OR, a heavier, occasionally faster tempo, more Jazz influenced Radiohead tribute.

OR, Progressive, Jazz-influenced Grunge or Soul or Celtic or AfroBeat or Ska ...heavy Fusions of some sort of renditions of our favourite songs...

Whatever the choice or fusion of genre or sub-genres, perhaps performed with an Incognito-like or Pigface-like rotating guest player roster could occur as well if several other musos and guest vocalists are interested and compatible.

I love to harmonise vocals too, so a three-part or four-part harmony band of any genre is attractive to me also, or harmonising often within any of the ideas I've mentioned or other straight ahead music-heavy band work as well.

The above are simply a few workable ideas of MANY. If you have an idea or three that you believe I may take interest in please do contact Me and I will look forward to speaking with you soon. :)

Besides my adoration and admiration for these genres and subgenres the reason I am considering them as standout choices for the region is that there are an abundance of Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Screamo Metal, American Punk, and Alternative Rock acts booking locally but no one I have heard are truly tight, at all unique, let alone impressive. Most members are in their late teens to early-thirties, cliquey/exclusionary (in my personal experience), and offer the same-old, same-old only...

With friendly, pro-grade, middle-aged+ musos to kick ass with incredible arrangements and chops, the local live music scene could be humanised more, therefore becoming more welcoming of those who are deemed 'different' by the current gang and therefore also more invigorated and lively and varied in terms of genres played and heard, spurring more music appreciators of all legal age groups to get out and mingle, possibly inspiring others to do something similar. There is a great deal of isolation and loneliness and abuse and associated illness in the region. I'd like lyrical choices to be supportive of such individuals as much as possible. Being an activist and vocalist, meaningful lyrics are greatly preferred by me. I have a list of nearly 1500 such songs assembled at Spotify. I still need to get all of the associated lyrics printed, however.

A few other ideas are acts performing: rearranged Activist/Protest songs, SoulJazz, AcidJazz, SoulGrunge, CelticSoul, CelticRock, FunkRock, JazzFunk, Contemporary Harmonies/DooWop/Bluegrass, a variety of Fusions, etc... anything interesting and complex and well performed. Again, if serious in interest or if you have ideas of your own that you think I may take interest in participating in please do contact me.

Below, please find ad text from a songwriting site where I seek lyricists to collaborate with. It will provide you with a great deal of information about me. :)

I am seeking individual(s) with whom to write both lyrics and music compositions, whether separately or as entire songs from the get-go.

A veteran of the music industry (every level) with impressive connections in several genres but mostly different sub-genres of Rock and Jazz, located in: U.S.A., England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, France, Germany, Canada and New Zealand. I always worked in the industry 'part-time' as I knew the abounding negativity and predatory behaviour would cause me too much frustration and upset toward rage and burnout.

I am an alto-vocalist with a past five-octave range, returning to vocal work and lyric and song writing (preferably passionate and poignant, social or political justice, spiritual enlightenment, human advancement and evolution focussed -- especially moving storytelling lyrics -- while using whatever language fits, be it peaceful, vague, violent or explicitly candid) toward recording in collaboration with one or two others via software and electronics only or multiple instruments played by us few, or with a number of collaborators, or with a band and/or orchestra. I would most prefer to work with real instruments, whether one multi-instrumentalist or several musicians. I do have some interest in creating electronic music as well but need tutelage toward creating it myself. I possess professional artist, producer, manager, agent, booker, label owner, etc. connections in those sub-genres as well.

I haven't read music in decades and have lost most of my knowledge of the associated terminology. So, I need those who consider collaborating with me to be patient, easy-going, humble rather than arrogant and since I have a dominant personality -- not overly dominant and certainly not domineering from their end. I will not tolerate any abuse tactics, personality disordered or otherwise.

I'm a conscious, fair, broad-minded, life joys and difficulties / interests / injustices / relationship types / health issues / intercontinental relocation and travel experienced individual who is a member of compounded minority groups, a lifelong civil / social / sexual / health / species rights and political reform activist, intersectional feminist / humanist / humane gynarchist (toward future peaceful, fully equitable, humane anarchy), and seek someone who shares my ethics/morals, values, principles/convictions, priorities, goals, politics (or similar), etc. with whom to co-write lyrics of meaning that can empower, broaden or positively change the perceptions or knowledge base, or increase support, passion or awareness of personal power of the listener toward self, human ingroup/outgroup, community, subculture, industry, nation and world justice or unity; what is helpful or "right" toward progress and evolution or simply greater curiosity, interest, acceptance/rejection, understanding or enlightenment. I am most passionately willing to sing such lyrics as well, whether I have composed them, co-composed them, or neither. However, I wish and plan to be successful and will therefore consider any lyrics that aren't superficial, sexist, racist, classist, ableist, homophobic, etc. -- if they're somehow compelling and the music, musicianship and production quality we marry them with 'work' and are impressive to whatever extent necessary for the appropriate market(s). ;)

I love to harmonise vocally and used to be impressively talented with creating several different harmony lines and various ways of phrasing/delivering lyrics via improvisation, even upon first listen of most lyrical songs. I hope to work with someone who can hear and write intricate, vastly rich instrumentation and, if possible, also with that talent toward lush (and possibly layered) vocal phrasing / styling / choreography arrangements. Working with a separate individual on vocal arrangements is fine with me also. I realise that some very skilled or talented music composers, instrumentalists and producers can hear and compose vocal arrangements better than many vocalists and personally possess no arrogant pride in that regard.

I used to play several instruments (none to the standard of a pro). Of course, I can still play simple percussion instruments well enough for recording and live gigs however, I do not have any instruments with me in Canada. I plan on finally learning to play piano, which I realise will help with this endeavour.

I can hear music well and often have note-worthy ideas for compositional additions or alterations, occasionally I come up with melodies, bridges and other musical arrangements. I haven't been spending time with musos who are actively creating music in a while but when I do I become much more creative in this area. When I hear a completed lyrical song, I first hear the vocal line, then the bass line, then any harmonies of voice and/or instruments, then intertwining layers of instrumentation, impressive instrumentation and/or composition, impressive production ideas, etc. I would place myself anywhere between passionately and curiously interested in a great many genres and sub-genres of music created during several centuries of musical eras. I used to be a powerhouse vocalist but need to workout more, increasing my lung and heart capacities, and sing in multiple genres for several hours per day to build up to reclaiming my power and most of my previously very broad range. I can manage every singing style besides Opera (which I'd like to study in future) and Throat Singing (which I presently only have a slight interest in). I'm not a natural vocal gymnast but with choreographically arranged vocal phrasing can pull it off as well as any working Opera or R&B or Pop or Gospel vocalist. If it turns out that a publishing deal or personal connection to music supervisors or A&R or managers or label heads, etc. leads to songs being licensed before I record them, so be it. I am flexible. :)

If serious, interested and seemingly compatible, I can be located at *Hunted dot Sam dot Hunter atgeemaildotcom,* please reach me.

Best wishes toward all of our musical endeavours! :)

Some of My Influences:
I do like some contemporary musicians and bands but haven't listened enough to feel that I have favourites besides Cosmo Sheldrake and James Morrison's singing. I find most contemporary artists are directly ripping-off classic artists and sub-genres, right down to my ability to name a song title or artist they've "borrowed from"... ;)

Some of my favourite artists and bands, for one reason or another:
Kate Bush, Level 42, Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers, Joni Mitchell, Jamiroquai, Paul Kelly (Oz), Kate Rusby, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, Paul Weller, Massive Attack, Stars, Soundgarden, Ruby, Sandy Denny, Lemon Jelly, Rush, Shirley Horn, Isley Brothers, Thin Lizzy, Curve, Spearhead, Nik Kershaw, Kruder Dorfmeister, Femi Kuti, Fela Kuti, Spock's Beard, Style Council, The Police, Favoured Nations, The Avener, Dap Kings, Incognito, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Ian Moss, Allman Brothers Band, Earth Wind Fire, Steely Dan, Tycho, New Found Land, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Missy Higgins, Laura Nyro, Vika & Linda, Renee Geyer, Aimee Mann, Cosmo Sheldrake, Fugazi, The Specials, The Beat, Issac Hayes, Pink Floyd, Jerry Lee Lewis, James Morrison, The Verlaines, Jeff Buckley, Prince, Timo Kamarainen, Mother Mother, Jah Wobble and the Invaders of the Heart, Phil Gould, Jane Siberry, London Elektricity, Orbital, Gentlemen's Dub Club, Loreena McKennitt, Test Dept., Beatles, John Mayer...

Besides the vocal work I've done, I co-wrote lyrics with a well-respected and well-connected neo-R&B and HipHop producer and multi-instrumentalist in N.Y.C. years ago but an abusive family connection that I wanted nothing to do with was a little too-close-for-comfort so I surrendered that project. After which, I focused on other areas of the industry as well as other industries and careers. I'm ready to return to the creative arena of music.
