Band to Join.ABOUT
I have an original solo project, and other active collaborative studio side-projects. But for live I'm interested in developing/joining a more collaborative partnership(s). I'm a reliable team player who will serve the song. My strongest skills are rhythm guitar and bass combined with strong vocals. I don't play lead guitar solos, but I can do a riff. I'm interested in playing percussion/drums for a project that fits my drummer profile (learning, but experienced musician generally). There are lots of recordings from my solo side under "Jason Pilling" on any streamer to demo my level of musicianship. I am a songwriter, not a jazz-trained, play the scale kind of player. So I learn the song well but not ntly like some can. Hence, I appreciate a band environment where we work out arrangements together, not a together one-rehearsal before the show kind of thing.
I'm only interested in projects that help build my music career and network. Sorry, no cover bands. Three things I'd look for in a project to join. 1. unselfish and honest people. 2. Lyric quality...i.e. Gord Downie, Aimee Mann, Steven Page, Fiona Apple. 3. collaborative live show...i.e. I'll play for free...so like, no bossing me around.
Sorry if that sounds overly restrictive...but I'm just being honest about my goals and what I can deliver.

Influences
I care a lot about lyrics and it's the defining niche of my solo project. I don't write romantic songs...but understand they are most musicians bread & butter, so I'll happily participate if it's poetic. I listen widely, but biggest influences for the music I want to make are Gord Downie, Aimee Mann, Steve Earle, Ben Folds, Fiona Apple, Regina Spector, Steven Page. But generally anything that has good lyrics, will work for me. Did I mention lyrics?

EQUIPMENT
High quality acoustic guitars, banjo, electrics, basses (incl semi-acoustic upright), acoustic drums and other percussion. Good amps. A small but well-appointed home studio. A car to get around. Communication skills.
