but in reality, I learned '70's metal (sabbath, zeppelin, quicksilver, etc, elp, genesis, pink floyd, blah blah blah) but now really just play whatever needs to be played. I have also played in some bands that have had nothing but originals - I love improvisation and jamming; I am not tied to any style, since I have my own.
