My name is Matt, and I'm 42 years old. I currently play with a local cover band that is stepping into originals, but want to kickstart some material they're not particularly into!
I've been playing bass for 30 years (20 years professionally), and have been an active gigging musician since I was 16. My influences are wide and eclectic. I've played in punk, rock, funk, blues, live hip-hop, and country bands. I listen to a lot of electronic music (drum and bass mostly, but also enjoy progressive trance, psychedelic, funk house, down tempo), folk/indie, jazz, blues, metal...I'm all over the place.
If I had to describe my natural bass playing style, it would be along the lines of early Incubus (Alex Katunik), RATM (Tim Commerford), mixed with Jamiroquai (Stuart Zender) and Flea. I get a wide array of tone from my fingers and enjoy playing dynamically with accompanying instrumentation. I love a good groove, playing in and around the pocket, and I have a great sense of time.
Looking for someone to work with and help me complete my ideas, as well as contribute to help you with yours. Someone to inspire me and help me find a more focused direction through their contributions. Maybe nail down a solid album and tour it one day.
I do have kids and a family, so the time isn't right for touring, but it is right for creating and perfecting something to take on the road in a couple years.
Would love to collaborate with a guitar and/or keyboard play who is also into EDM, a vocalist, and a drummer who can play exactly what's needed for the song. Might be a pipedream, but here's hoping!
My ultimate goals would be to eventually tour, play big events and win a Juno! Can never dream too big!
Ego's get checked at the door, I'm a no drama, no bullsh*t musician who wants to create and have fun, but also create something to truly be proud of that people can sing and dance to.
