I’m Nico, 36, I started playing drums when I was 18. I started a Punk-Rock band back in Mexico after 2 months of figuring out my way to learn how to play drums (I found it easy to play) we were mostly a cover band with some originals. For 1 year I played with my first cover band. On my second year I formed an original Pop-Punk/Skate-Punk band named Banana Hammox. We recorded an EP at the end of the first year together (not bad for 4 guys trying to reach the big leagues in a very difficult “Punk” music scene as is in Mexico). During my time with this band we played several local skate festivals, we even auditioned to be part of the line-up when New Found Glory went to Mexico City for the first time, unfortunately there were other bands with record labels but the experience we gained was pure gold!!! After 8 years of having lots of fun performing, practicing 4 days a week, working a full time job, going to some Warped Tours and other festivals together with the band, I moved to Canada on 2013 and didn’t play for 4 years until I started a cover band in Abbotsford for 2 years, it was mostly 90’s Alternative / Grunge / Punk music. We played some open mics in the Fraser Valley and the Richmond Night Market, that helped me to get rid of the rust. I never used double kick before so I took the challenge because my best friend wanted to play metal music, I found it challenging but I used the same “formula” that helped me to learn playing drums to learn playing double kick, now I’m looking to start a Punk-Melodic-Core project or similar.
