Looking for a vocalist/ MC for a spoken word, beat poet style jam band. I want to do something that is more like storytelling than singing. More like poetry than rap. Almost like monologue set to music.
The music would be highly improvised, but based off of predetermined riffs or rhythms. There would be loose arrangements and structure that would allow the “song” to have consistent feel, tone, pace, and predictable chord changes yet enough freedom to never really be played or performed exactly the same way twice.
This would start out as vocal, bass, drums and possibly add other instruments.
Ideally there would be a general tone that would be in the psychedelic, funk, metal realm, and would be thick and dark for the most part.
Imagine if Primus was the back up band for Gil Scott-Heron.
This is meant to be music for the sake of music. A chance to express and live in the moment with a familiar platform. A musical art project. No one is gonna get rich, but hopefully it becomes a fun way to experiment and do something different and cut a new path. The ability to crash a stage with a loose agenda, and just let it happen after that.
I have a drummer who is interested, and this would start out pretty casually as we are both involved in other bands.

Influences
Grew up on metal and classic rock, and have developed an taste for jazz, and old school blues. Have a very diverse taste in music in general, and go thru phases of listening preferences.
Specific/current band influences include; Primus, Tool ,Mastodon, Isis, Black Sabbath,The Ominific, Rivers of Nihil, If These Trees Could Talk, The Ocean, Queens of the Stone Age, Beastie Boys,
