I Started playing Bass in grade 8 my older brother Dave had a basement band and he needed someone to play bass. Looking back on that we weren’t always in tune or play the same song at the same time. Man was it fun I guess that’s what got me hooked and I’ve been playing bass ever since.
Through the years I’ve played in groups like Tracer, Trexx Viper, Judge, Model Citizen, Jessie Lang’s “tribute To Elvis”, Jim Skinner And Smoking Buffalo, Three-way,
Four-play, Main Street and Knee Deep I’ve played everything from Willie and Merle’s “poncho and lefty” to Judas Priest “ Breaking the law” and a lot of stuff I don’t remember.
I live for a full grand piano bass sound with rich warm tone and never ending sustain.
I play both Fender Jazz and BC Rich basses with EMG pick-ups and Badass bridges. My main stay amp is a Peavey Fire bass with a double 15-inch peavey black widow cabinet. If I need to up the anti I’ll bring out the dreaded double 18-inch black widow bin. The Traynor amp I use for arc welding at home and go bi-amp “anything to stay out of the PA and avoid mudding up our sound”. For processing I use the line 6 Bass Pod XT Live “the greatest thing since Bubble wrap” I swear on a clear night you can pick up Elvis on this thing, its that good.
The most important things I’ve learned are “Never fear the bass all ways treat it with respect”, “sometimes you just have to plant your feet grit you teeth and pound it out” and oh ya “don’t mess with the drummer you never know when you might need some back up”.
