ABOUT
Yukon "Yuk MC" Sleeman was born to perform. From an early age his interest in music was clear, starting with the trumpet in grade school and continuing in to many different instruments. At the centre of this musical journey was "Grandma Anita", a Doctor of Music and Yuk MCs paternal grandmother. With her guidance and influence, Yuk was sent on a path that was not what he expected...
After a few years of DJing Vancouver hotspots like: The Commodore; Luv-a-fair, Graceland and Red Lounge to name a few, luck would have Yuk join with PUCK. Originally just a musician, he quickly started rapping and it stuck. After a few years doing shows with PUCK, Yuk would embark on a solo journey of sound!
While the next decade some incredible highs (song placement in a local film, performing at the inaugural Live At Squamish festival), it also saw some struggles. You was forced to hang up his hat on the MC wagon, and he wasn't sure he would return...
2017 changed everything. After welcoming the birth of his first child, Yuk used that inspiration to get to work honing his craft and curating his sound. In January 2020, he released his first album in almost 10 years "Both Sides Of Me", a departure in some ways from his earlier records. And after a very successful launch show for it, well, then the world shut down for a bit and the chance to use that launch to his advantage had faded.
This did not deter him one bit.
In 2021, Yuk joined up with his former bandmates Pot-C and The Cheese (PUCK/Krazy sh*tz) to release the first Krazy sh*tz record in 22 years! This album was a hit. And people noticed. A week or so later the owner of Bloc Global records (Maine State, USA), Michael Gregoire, reached out to Yuk to ask if he'd be interested in joining with the label as a solo artist? It was a very fast yes, and since then Yuk has released 3 solo albums, with a new Krazy sh*tz album in the works. In April 2023 Yuk also launched a podcast for and about Blocsonic/Bloc Global called the "Bloc Discovery Sessions". Completely written, produced and recorded by Yuk MC, this new show takes a deep-dive in to the vaults of Blocsonic records. And while these successes are great, there is just one thing still missing: the live shows. This is the next step for Yuk, who is still on his way to the top.
